bullet NAVAN SUMMER FESTIVAL SUNDAY AUGUST 1ST

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Navan Summerfest 2010 is in its 2nd year and is run by the Navan Shamrock Festival Committee.

We hope you will discover that the Festival programme this year offers a fantastic range of activities activities for all the family. And will begin to put Navan on the Map when it comes to summer festivals throughout the country.

An additional event on this year’s programme will be the Dinghy Duck Challenge.  The format of this event will be four 12 foot Pioneer dinghy’s crewed by two competitors, an oars person and a duck catcher, starting from a pontoon situated along the east riverbank  8 meters up from the granny station.  The four dinghies will race across the river, in order to collect their first duck on the West Bank, Navan side, then the two dinghies that began on the upriver end of the starting line, will race up the river, to port, for about 70 meters, the other two dinghies which were on the down river end of the starting line, will race down river, to starboard 30 meters to collect their second duck. With second ducks on board, the dinghies which went upriver turn and race to the downriver station and the dinghies which went downriver turn and race to the upriver station in order to collect their third and final duck.  All dinghies then race for home, the starting pontoon, the first dinghy home with three ducks wins., now that sounds like fun.

This event will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday, the raft race will begin at 3 p.m. therefore it may be possible for some people to compete in both events.  Entry to the raft race is free but as we are providing the dinghies, there will be two buoyancy aids supplied per dinghy, there will be an entry fee of €8 per team for the dinghy duck challenge.  It may be possible to offer practice runs, for those who would like to become more familiar with their craft, on Saturday the day before the event. I hope some of this makes sense, if you’re interested please contact Seamus 086 8514427.

Also on the bill this year is Teddy Bears Picnic, Dog Show, Boyne River Race,Navan’s got Talent, Jeeses 60′s, 70′s, and80′s Fancy Dress Disco,Family Sports Day,Bonnie Baby Competition,Face Painting,Fishing Competitions and much more…This is going to be a great day for all the family so why not come along and join in the fun.

bullet The Chapters @ The Backroom, Navan

    The Chapters

CHAPTERS RELEASE THIRD SINGLE FROM ACCLAIMED ALBUM

    GIG DETAILS:

VENUE:  The Backroom, Lantern Bar, Navan

    DATE:  Friday 4th December

    ADM:  €8    DOORS: 9:30pm

SUPPORT:  Trigger & The Hitmen Plus Doctor Leaves

The Dublin five-piece band The Chapters are to release ‘Moving’, the third single from their sparkling debut album Perfect Stranger, amid a crescendo of critical acclaim for both their dynamic live concerts and exhilarating recordings.

The release of ‘Moving’ will be followed by an increased intensity on the promo and gigging front, including a major concert at The Academy on November 20. It follows a busy Summer which saw The Chapters turn in a storming series of performances, including explosive shows at Oxegen, the Music Show at the RDS, Arthur’s Day Guinness 250, and a match-winning half-time performance during the Magners League Rugby game between Leinster and Munster before a 20,000 capacity crowd!
‘Moving’ is the follow-up to their single ‘Trying To Get Ahead’, also taken from the album Perfect Stranger, and is likely to generate further kudos for a band now generating the most positive vibes throughout the music industry and the media.
The Chapters first made their mark in 2008, gigging to large crowds nationwide while supporting Neil Young, Cathy Davey, Chuck Berry and The Coronas, among other top names. But their new-found success comes in the wake of many trials and tribulations, including their first album being written off after the record label closed. But The Chapters’ strength of character and commitment to their music prevailed, and within weeks they had signed another deal, this time with 3u Records, home to The Coronas. They started afresh, and with a renewed determination laid down their debut album with up-and-coming Irish producer Ciaran Bradshaw. Now, at last, they are enjoying the rewards of that commitment.
The band’s sound marries a range of influences, from Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads, The Cars and The Band, with their own timeless style to create music that transcends musical fashion.
The Chapters are: Ross McNally, Simon Eustace, Turlough Gunawardhana, Michael Murphy and Ciaran Fortune.

For media comments on The Chapters see attached page.

bullet Tom Waits Live Album and stand up routine to be released

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
Glitter & Doom in full effect

Glitter & Doom in full effect

TOM WAITS is set to release Glitter and Doom Live, a collection of outstanding live tracks from his 2008 tour. The two CD set contains live recordings from ten nights along the tour including, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Tulsa, Knoxville, Atlanta, Paris, Milan, Jacksonville, Dublin and Columbus. The second CD entitled, Tom Tales has nearly 40 minutes of Waits’ typical between song banter that usually include some hilarious tales.
This is an example of our Tom’s idea of fun…

Well… look, I think the question I get asked the most is… I mean, it happens a lot. Enough that I would remark on it. A lot of people come up to me and they say, “Tom, is it possible for a woman to get pregnant without intercourse?” And eh my answer is always the same. I say, “Well, listen. We’re gonna have to go all the way back to the Civil War.” Apparently, a stray bullet actually pierced the testicle of a Union soldier, and then lodged itself in the ovaries of an eighteen year old girl, who was actually a hundred feet from him at the time. Well, the baby was fine. She was very happy, guilt free and eh… Of course, the soldier was a little pissed off. When you think about it, it’s actually a FORM of intercourse, but NOT… for everyone. Those who love ACTION maybe.”

The CD will also come with a booklet of live photos.
